Press Statement
Eph-Six-11
C-Scripture Set To Release LP Late August
On 30 May 2013 Eph-Six-11 announced that artist Michael “C-Scripture” Chiphwanya (@scripture39) is to release his LP set to drop late August 2013. Though young, the rapper has shared the stage with U.K’s Jahaziel (Xist Music) and Tru-2-da-Name (Preacherboy Records) and has always impressed with his strength in delivery. Previous rap projects by the artist are Before Grace EP and Just to Let You Know. Of the upcoming project, C-Scripture says: “expect music, good music”. The producers list includes: Divine Sense (@justusbeatz), Patrick Manyozo (@patricmanyozo), Basssik, Pro. Lifik, and God’s Favourite.

The artist has featured Omri (http://www.isix5.com) and Perfect Marvel on his last project “Just to Let You Know” and promises an even more expanded feature line-up for his LP with Gosple…and a surprise feature! The project will boast all four hip-hop flavors: east coast, west coast, south-side, and boombap, and it promises to be diverse and dynamic.

ANYTHING WRONG with Crossova's TALAKWA CHANI?

download at: https://www.box.com/s/5bmmmckia018ow23sz3e (copy and paste on your web browser if you cant click it)

If one of Malawi’s urban gospel founding members releases a track then naturally my ears perk up. Raphael “Crossova” Nyirenda has produced artists from David to Double-Zee and is well-known for his mixing abilities – but this track lacked a lot of the quality and technical experience you would have come to expect from the rapper who has been around for a long time! But that would be an unfair assessment because this song was done TWO YEARS AGO! There are 2 reasons why I am reviewing it now because I only review music 6 months or younger: firstly, it may have been done 2 years ago but Crossova has only released it recently and its message is still relevant; secondly…keep reading and you will find out.

The production is typically Crossova which has become a mark of distinction in Malawian music circles. If the song was poor technically then that is to be expected because Crossova has grown in the past 2 years into a truly talented producer. I truly love this guy’s works and efforts for our country’s music and for God.
The first thing you notice is… “Alvin and the Chipmunks” as Crossova decided to pitch his voice high, but this is not entirely a bad thing for two reasons:-
1.       I played the song in the car with my nephews (14, 13, and 10 year olds) and niece (8 years old) and they absolutely loved it from start to finish! It was on repeat, it was blue-toothed, and it was enjoyed. The truth is, all age groups need to be reached, and this song does well to catch the attention of a younger audience. The older audience will feel as though the Alvin thing took away from a strong message, but the kids will love it.
2.       If you listen beyond the Alvin voice there lies very strong content – and I understand why he chose to pitch his voice: he takes on the role of babies that have been thrown in dug-out toilets, disposed of in plastic bags, and others that have been aborted :'( The innocent babies are asking their mothers “talakwa chani” (what wrong have we done towards you?). It warmed my heart on an informational and emotional level, and with all the worlds disasters that are going on – one of them being child abandonment and abortion – it will either break your heart or harden it. This was a personal song and telling my kids about the meaning behind it, I could see their eyes process a truth that is rarely spoken about in such a way. It was a musical miss but it was an eye-opening experience and for that I take my hat off to Crossova – a man who is a voice to countless voiceless victims!

The SECOND reason why I am reviewing it is because many Malawian artists do have music that is already made but they are sitting on it!!! Release it! You may be sitting on a gold mine of revelation! Who knows, maybe your song has the power to communicate a powerful message, or has the ability to make four kids and their uncle realize the importance of life. DO NOT SIT ON YOUR TALENTS – SHARE THEM!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: GUESS WHO B'ZAK!!!

Dr. Dre disappears and even Cross Movement goes missing, but after 5 months out of the game – we’re back! And this time we are more relentless, less merciful, more brutal and – just kidding! The aim remains the same and that is to encourage the music coming out of our country.

·         I am not different: Ever heard a song and then think “that was dreadful”, or tell your friend: “I really like that song” – well, if you ever did then you are a reviewer too! We are all reviewers, only that I write my thoughts down for you to read!
·         I am still on the prowl: if you choose to put your music out on the market with a price tag (K700, or K1, 500, or whatever!) then you have officially given us a product. As is with any product I have the right to express my thoughts concerning how I feel about it. If you want us to buy it, then we have the right to review it.
·         I am still adamant: if you say you are doing it for God and His kingdom then you know God requires a work of quality. Quality isn’t how much money you spend to make your music, it’s the heart and effort you put behind doing what you love with what little resources you have – and I have the skill to hear that heart and effort in music.
·         I am sure: it’s a mini-service to our music; it certainly goes a long way to hype up a project and create an audience both in Malawi and outside of it. Four people who had never heard of C-Scripture e-mailed me after his review went out saying they were impressed – one was from America… Good review, bad review you always get publicity.

Here is what I would like for you to do…wait! I am coming out with new reviews from Crossover to Arthur, Li-Wu to Suffix, Gospo San to Lomuthi, S.A.M.U.E.L to Lawi and so wait for them. In the meantime:-
1.       Let’s start trending #sharpiron on twitter, keep the conversation goin. Argue with me, agree with me
2.       You can catch me there too on @rowmasi
3.       Divert my attention to music that is coming out, I can’t keep track of all of them
4.       Divert my attention to artists that are coming out, I can’t keep track of all of them
5.       Keep waiting…– it takes a lot of time to go through a project properly, do my research, ask advice from technical experts and other music heads – I take a project seriously because I assume the artist was serious when making it too!
Thank-you for the warm welcome back!
